Kathryn Callaghan

Gallery Rouge began working with Northern Irish artist Kathryn Callaghan in 2015. We’re now proud to be her primary representatives in the UK. We enjoyed a successful solo exhibition with the artist in 2016 at our St Albans gallery, where we showcased more than thirty original works.

Kathryn’s unique creative process sees her dripping, pouring and splashing her gel-like paint from height. She calls this ‘drawing in mid-air’, where the final image is determined by Kathryn’s movements directly above it, and the way the paint lands. Kathryn’s spontaneous painting process results in free, loose mark making, which allows her subjects to depict energy, movement and emotion – a charming reflection of how they are created.

Kathryn’s art is built up across as many as fifteen layers, with an overnight dry time in between each. They are often elegantly finished with touches of silver and gold leaf.
